I have a very special Local Source for fine Western Red Cedar brought down from Vancouver Island, B.C. My Supplier has always only carried vertical grained Old Growth KD Clear, in 2″ thick stock only, but he’s just started carrying a larger, timber sized stock in #1 Select Tight Knot Timber Grade.
These salvaged logs (38″ across) are from trees killed in a fire in 1893, and have been standing dead ever since. Incredibly dry and stable after standing that long! This wouldn’t be considered Old Growth, but this nice stock has a much tighter grain than most WR Cedar found today.
